If you buy one French album in 2013, you should probably make it Lescop's La Foret. If you buy two, hold on and see what the Juveniles debut is like. If you have room for three, well, there's always Daft Punk.

Lescop mixes elements of punk rock with slick funk and a touch of electronica on his debut album, which, unlike many French bands and artists, is sung entirely in his native tongue. There's no need for us uneducated Brits to worry about a language barrier however, as Lescop's music is wistful, sexual and nostalgic enough that the tone and melody is enough to strike a chord with those of us who don't speak the language.

This week, (3 June, 2013), Lescop performed a solo show at London's The Lexington, and we caught up with Mathieu Peudupin to discuss the sounds and themes of his debut album - and for him to perform the title track from the record, La Foret. The album is released this week on Pop Noire.
