Chase & Status have stated they think dance music has reached a never-before seen level of popularity, particularly at recent festivals, with its ability to 'push boundaries'.

The electro duo spoke to Gigwise backstage at this year's Reading festival, where we asked them about how dance music's ever-increasing presence at rock festivals.

Will Kennard (Status) said: "Festivals obviously look at what's popular, what's going to help sell tickets, what do the people want to hear, and dance music has infiltrated the mass market now, globally."

He continued; "It's also fused quite well in some situations with live music. Genres are becoming a little less well-defined, and I think people are more open minded. We don't really think of ourselves as dance music - but just a weird mash-up of different stuff."

The dance duo had garnered a high billing on what was, and has historically always been, a very rock-dominated line up. Speaking about the dance craze of recent years, Kennard told us; "It's [dance] never been this big, and then died and now is back. It's not really a cycle...It's pretty incredible what's happened to electronic music.

"I definitely think it's signalling a new generation of the way music's made, and the possiblities of making music with more than just instruments. Boundaries are being pushed electronically, and now in indie music and rock music."
