Vance Joy is a young Australian artist from Melbourne who has achieved breakout success in his native country with his debut EP God Loves You When You're Dancing. The lead single 'Riptide' is one hell of a piece of work, achieving platinum success in an astoundingly short space of time.
Armed only with a ukelele and his voice, Vance is able to construct intricate tracks playing on the best aspects of songwriting by exploiting the simplicity in melody and rhythm. Discussing the track in a session with Gigwise, Vance explains that it was inspired by a stay with his family at the run down Riptide motel.
