About
Artinair is an alternative rock band from Vancouver, B.C., Canada, composed of Kate (Vocals), Jon (Bass) and Don (Guitars). They were brought together by very unique circumstances and sheer chance.
Kate has been singing since birth. Even as an infant, the pitch of Kate's cries aligned in tune with the melodies from the songs her mom would put on to stop her from crying. The first words she ever uttered was "beat it", sang in tune with Michael Jackson's original. As soon as she was old enough, Kate went on to win every single singing competition her mom could enter her in. Everyone in her small town of Revelstoke knew of her and of her abilities, nicknaming her "the child." Even to this day, she always scores a minimum of 96 in any karaoke. Since the beginning until now, it has always been evident that Kate's destiny was to sing.
Kate met Jon during a car accident. Watching the ambulance crew attend to the drivers, Kate noticed and vocally expressed how badly damaged one of the cars were. Jon, another bystander replied "yeah I play the bass guitar." At first surprised by his insensitivity to the situation, the two continued on into an engaging conversation about music. They then decided to keep in touch and continue their conversation at another time. Soon thereafter they ended up making music together. It was later found that Jon misheard Kate's saying "wasted car" for "bass guitar". The two drivers of the vehicles were not seriously injured.
Don was the last to join the group that is now called Artinair. Interestingly, Don once tried to kill Jon, and almost succeeded at it (highschool drama). There are scars that remain on Jon's left hip as a testament to this ordeal, but this entails another story. Since then, both grew to become very close friends. As such, Don was asked to join the duo, being an experienced guitarist, xylophonist and overall versatile musician.
Since the three have gotten together on August 2009, they have recorded and released an album, and have played numerous shows in several popular venues within Vancouver and throughout the B.C. interior. Overall, Artinair's live performances have been said to be "energetic, entertaining and excellent!"
People have compared Artinair's music to many different sounds such as the "sound of the calm exhale released by a bear upon removing the tranquilizer dart from its neck." Another has also described their music as "when the ninja turtles meet the sexy little red riding hood and they go at it." For the sake of classification, the music Artinair creates can be safely pinned as alternative pop rock.
While Jon holds the point in maintaining catchy riffs and radio-esque potential due to his affinity with modern pop music, Don brings in progressiveness and unorthodox guitar performances, having been influenced tremendously by post-rock and other more experimental sounds. Kate tops it off with her memorable melodies and "powerful" voice described as "a kickass fusion between Meredith Brooks, Gwen Stefani and Alanis Morissette."
Interesting fact: As unbelievable as it sounds, all three members were each given birth to in rooms containing a phonograph.
