Frankie Cocozza Booted Off The X-Factor - Behaving Badly With No Talent To Fall Back On

It was announced earlier today that X-Factor bad boy Frankie Cocozza had been axed from the show after it emerged that he breached a “golden rule”. It's not quite clear what guideline Frankie didn't adhere to, but if the tabloid reports have any truth in them then it's not hard to imagine that it could be one of many.

Ever since this series first premièred back in August, the headlines have been filled with some claim about Cocozza – usually accompanied by his a 1000px image of his arrogant, meaty face. The singer has thus far been accused of – if our counting is correct – all-night partying, heavy-drinking before and after shows, womanising, swearing on set and drug use. We only have to wait for The Sun to publish a story about Cocozza eating a hamster and Frankie will have a full house.

So what's all the big hoopla about? Rockstars are meant to be rebellious, right? Our music heritage was built on throwing television sets out of windows, getting busted in customs and waking up about twenty minutes after your stage time. Well, kind of – rock n roll has been more lenient on their performers' antics as when you're working from the peripheries, any news is good news and bad news attracts attention more than the purely mundane.

But when it comes to the pop world, this isn't the case. When your target audience is so vast and broad, fiascos like this can only alienate the general public. These sort of antics had threatened the careers of popstars as varying as Lily Allen and Whitney Houston, amongst many more. Who would buy a Justin Bieber album for their daughter or Michael Buble CD for their gran if they were caught in a hotel room orgy - only the real sadists among us, that's who.

So was it right or wrong to dismiss Cocozza for the show, solely on his alleged behaviour – rather than the other important matter than he simply is a really really bad singer – well, yes, it probably was the right decision by Cowell, Barlow et al. X-Factor remains a pre-watershed family show that can't afford to be seen as promoting a negative behavioural image to the young 'uns watching while having their dinner in front of the telly. It's all a drooling, money-hungry corporate machine that finally realised that Cocozza wasn't going to win or make them any sort of dollar any time soon.
