Stephen Hawking has issued a scientific message of hope to One Direction fans still in mourning since the departure of Zayn Malik.
Malik left the group last month, telling fans that he felt as if he had 'let them down' but needed to live a normal life. Fans took to grieving online, before support hotlines were set up and businesses found novel ways to sell Easter eggs and cardboard cut-outs baring his image.
Now, in another bizarre twist, Professer Stephen Hawking stepped in to the discussion.
Appearing as a hologram at Sydney Opera House streamed from Cambridge University. he urged Directioners to look towards theoretical physics in the hope of discovering an alternate universe in which Malik is still in the band. Yes, that was a real sentence.
“One day there may well be proof of multiple universes," said Hawking, reports The Guardian, "and in that universe Zayn is still in One Direction."
This month also saw X Factor mogul Simon Cowell has open up about his reaction to Zayn Malik leaving One Direction. He appeared on James Corden’s new US talk show, where he said: “I kind of new this was coming if I’m honest with you. We’d had a few conversations and he wasn’t happy. I was trying to say to him, 'You should stay around a bit longer', and then something in him said, 'No, I've had enough'. Once the decision was made I dealt with it, then obviously made sure the guys were okay as they were shocked as well.”
Cowell then went on to say that he respected Malik’s decision, saying: “Once someone has made their mind up, they're going to go. At the same time I didn't want to push him too much, he's 22 and I could see he was stressed and needed some time off. I had to respect his decision.”
