Frank Sinatra Jr. - son of the late singer Frank Sinatra and younger brother of Nancy Sinatra - has died of a heart attack at the age of 72 while on tour in Florida.
His younger sister Nancy, who is also a musician, revealed the news of his death on Facebook. "The Sinatra family mourn the untimely passing of their son, brother, father, uncle, Frank Sinatra Jr. of cardiac arrest while on tour in Daytona, Florida," she wrote, adding, "Sleep warm, Frankie."
Sinatra Jr. was himself a musician and conductor, and released seven albums over the course of his career. His last, That Face!, was released back in 2006 and saw him performing Great American Songbook tunes, along with one self-written number.
Sinatra Jr. was also famously kidnapped at the age of 19 back in 1963. He was returned safely two days later after his family paid $240,000. It later transpired that Barry Keenan, a high school friend of Nancy, masterminded the kidnapping.
Speaking back in 2002 of continuing his father's legacy, Sinatra Jr. said, "Since my father’s death a lot of people have made it clear that they’re not ready to give up the music. For me it’s a big, fat gift. I get to sing with a big orchestra and get to sing orchestrations that will never be old."
