Deadmau5, House of Pain, Slaves and Trentemøller are all among the names today added to the bill for Electric Castle festival in Cluj, Romania from 12-16 July.
Electric Castle is, according to its press people, “One of the only festivals to be set within the walls of a 15th Century castle”, which has led to Gigwise searching frantically, and fruitlessly, for other festivals set within the walls of 15th Century castles. We did however read a lot of Game of Thrones fan fiction.
Also joining the seven-stage festival, which has a 24-hour-music policy are Duke Dumont, Atari Teenage Riot, Tommy Cash, Maceo Plex, Eats Everything, MJ Cole and more. This is alongside an already exciting line-up including Alt-J, Moderat, SOHN and Nero at the top of the bill.
Tickets for the festival are notably affordable for a summer festival: ranging from £60 for the five days (or £80 with camping) to £325 for the standard ticket with Swedish Lodges. Considering Electric Castle bills itself as a “five-day hedonistic adventure” electronic music fans’ interest should be more than piqued: it’s a five-day hedonistic adventure, in a 15th Century castle (that we can only presume is haunted) with Swedish lodges and a 24-hour music policy for crying out loud!
Furthermore if you fancy a break from the music, or if electronica isn’t really you’re thing and you’re still reading for some reason, there are art installations, performance art and TEDx Talks plus an “untold” amount of food vendors (Gigwise literally hasn’t been told how many but the more the merrier – any chance to expand cuisine horizons goes down well in our book). If you need any more convincing, Beer on site is £1 while a spirit and mixer is £2.50
The festival is beautifully located 30 km from the University city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, at Banffy Castle in an area known as “the Versailles of Transylvania” (told you there must be ghouls). The castle, its walls, and surrounding moat awe-inspiring and few festivals can rival the fairytale views.
