SAP are a bunch of fresh-faced noiseniks with a penchant for boisterous, angular garage-punk. Ahead of a show this Saturday at London's iconic The Water Rats, we're here to give you the lowdown on all things SAP in preparation.
The trio, comprised of Angus McGuinness, Will Tyler and Shane Keaney, recently released their debut A/B side single 'Feel It/Paint Me Red All Over' which was met with widespread acclaim but we'll get to that later, for now, let's start from the beginning.
SAP (apparently an acronym for Simple Ass People) sprung to life just over a year ago with the release of their first demo, the lo-fi punky number 'Attitude'. Absolutely frenetic in its no-holds-barred delivery, their first recorded effort is a slab of screeching garage-rock propelled by a truly pummeling bassline, thrashing distorted guitars and crackly, barking vocals. Not a bad start, eh?
Not long after, they released the stand-alone track '5AM' - an incessant, fuzz-injected call to arms for those 21st-century wastoids who find themselves wide-awake in the early hours of the morning, wired off their face and wallowing in a post-substance-abuse haze as the sun begins to rise. It's unholy garage-rock with a micro-dose of grungey angst.
Now that brings us to their latest cuts; the blistering A/B side single 'Feel It/Paint Me Red All Over'. Both singles are a much more polished affair than the outfit's previous tracks. Combining disjointed, noise-rock sounding guitars, brash vocals and discordant melodies, these two tracks see their nihilistic rock'n'roll driven by a bludgeoning nod to 90s Seattle grunge.
SAP will be playing at London's iconic venue The Water Rats this Saturday alongside Gutxi Bibang, The Americas and Plastic People. The night is hosted by famed rock'n'roll promoters This Feeling - you won't want to miss it!
