Could Ed Sheeran be heading for the Pyramid Stage at this year’s Glastonbury festival? Given his complete ubiquity in the UK charts, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him joining headliners Foo Fighters and Radiohead at the annual Somerset blow out.
During an interview with presenter Gordon Smart on Radio X, the singer-guitarist - whose planet-shagging new album, ÷, is set to hit number one in the charts following a record-breaking streaming frenzy – didn’t deny rumours that he was to be the third headliner. Mind you, he didn’t admit to anything either. He just sat there and acted a bit coy but that could’ve been indigestion as he said: “I… don’t know yet.”
See, it’s all in the pause. Was he hesitating? Was he struggling to keep a secret? And note the use of “yet” at the end. So has it been put to the Glastonbury people and they’re mulling things over? So many questions are hanging over this when the real answer is that you’re probably going to be crawling on your hands and knees and howling at the moon in the Shangri-La field anyway before trying to find your tent at dawn and then bursting into tears. Hey, it's happened to all of us at one point or another.
But hey, Ed did at least add that: “I might be doing another festival though.” That’s fantastic! But he didn’t say which one. Oh. All of which leads one to believe that he’d be far from exciting company down the pub:
“Would you like a beer, Ed?:”
“Yes.”
“Cool. Which one?”
“I can’t tell you.”
As previously reported by Gigwise, last week, Foo Fighters announced their Glastonbury headlining slot after directing fans to an intimate gig at Frome’s Cheese & Grain pub.
Elsewhere, festival organiser Emily Eavis dismissed a supposed leak detailing the line-up as "fake news".
