Public Image Ltd frontman and former Sex Pistols singer John Lydon has said that he will “miss” the Queen after she passes away while expressing fears that the Pistols’ ‘God Save The Queen’ will be played to make the occasion.
The song was originally released in 1977 to coincide with the Monarch’s Silver Jubilee. It reached Number Two in the UK singles charts but rumours persist to this day that the record was kept from the top slot by Establishment meddling. Among others, the song contained the lyrics: “God save the queen, she ain’t no human being / There is no future in England’s dreaming.”
Speaking to The Quietus, Lydon spoke of the song: “"That's about a political situation and the demand for obedience to a monarchy I don't believe in.”
He continued: “"But she's a human being and I will sorely miss her as a human being on planet Earth.
"It's not her fault she was born into a gilded cage.”
He spoke once again of his disappointment with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "His time has come and gone. It’s too much to expect any of us to pay and support that idiocy. Everyone has a losing streak, but 10 years of it - sorry, goodbye.”
Two weeks ago, Lydon told Gigwise that he’d sooner drop a league than continue with the beleageured manager saying: “It’s mediocre and it’s unfair to us fans.
“I’m Arsenal for life and as far as I’m concerned managers can come and go, just like them superstar players who demand too much money. Fuck ‘em all!
“Remember: it’s a game but it’s a game to be enjoyed and that’s been missing for a few years over there.”
