Linkin Park have set up a tribute website to their late singer Chester Bennington who passed away last week after taking his own life.
The site, chester.linkinpark.com, includes suicide prevention information including telephone numbers for US services such as Suicide Prevention Lifeline and Crisis Text Line. There are also links to international help lines. The new site also acts as a place where fans can also pay their respects to the singer. Posts from social media update in real time.
Bennington fronted the nu metal pioneers with rapper Mike Shinoda for more than two decades. He was found dead at his Los Angeles home last Thursday (July 20). The coroner ruled his death suicide by hanging.
Bennington had been a close friend of Soundgarden singer Chris Cornelll who hanged himself in May. Thursday would have been Cornell’s 53rd birthday.
Linkin Park’s most recent album, One More Light, was released earlier this year. They had recently recorded an episode of Carpool Karaoke with guest star Ken Jeong. Their North American tour, which was due to begin next week, has been cancelled.
A statement from promoters Live Nation said: Live Nation wrote: “The Linkin Park One More Light North American Tour has been cancelled. Refunds available at point of purchase. Our thoughts to all affected.”
Meanwhile, four of Linkin Park’s albums have re-entered the US charts. One More Light re-entered at No.17 after shifting 23,000 albums. 2000 debut album, Hybrid Theory, re-entered at No. 27 with 15,000 units sold. Meteora (2003) re-entered the chart at No. 41 with 11,000 copies sold while 2007’s Minutes To Midnight is at No. 115 after selling 6,000 copies.
