St Vincent premiered a new track ‘LA’ during a performance at Tokyo’s Summer Sonic Festival this weekend. Check out a clip of the track below.
Following the release of new single ‘New York’, a tour announcement, and telling The Guardian that she’s putting the final touches on the new record - it’s clear the wheels are fully in motion for Annie Clarke’s comeback.
Now, we’re another step closer to the release with a live airing of another new song. Clarke previously confirmed the track would feature on the new record in a recent interview, while also confirming song titles ‘Sugarboy’, ‘Pills’ and ‘Smoking Section'. The singer and guitarist told The Guardian she is in “deep nun mode” as she prepares to unveil her new record.
The track appears to be about a break-up, with lyrics “How can anybody have you and lose you and not lose their mind, too?”. Clarke kept things ambiguous during the interview though.
“I don’t love it when musicians speak about their records being ‘diaries’ or ‘therapy’,” she said. “It removes that level of deep instinct and imagination that is necessary in order to make something that transcends.”
She added: "My whole life is in this record. And I guess I haven’t 100% figured out how to talk about it"
The album will follow the 2014 self-titled effort, though there is no release date confirmed as of yet.
Clarke’s been busy then, it seems. It was recently confirmed that she is set to make her feature-length directional debut, with a reimagined version of Oscar Wilde’s novel The Picture Of Dorian Gray. It’s been reported that a female will take on the lead role in the film which will be produced by Lionsgate.
