Following rumours that originally surfaced in 2013, King Krule has revealed that he did indeed work with both Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt. The admission was made during an upcoming interview with King Krule – aka Archy Marshall - in Pitchfork.
The English singer, rapper, songwriter and producer tells that he was brought in the collaborate with Frank Ocean after the American musician mentioned the 6 Feet Beneath The Moon artist during an interview with BBC Radio 1. It seems that the pair met up at Marshall’s home to work together but the results weren’t to Ocean’s tastes.
“Frank was at my house, yeah,” Marshall told Pitchfork in a forthcoming interview. “His work rate’s crazy; he creates album after album. I don’t know what goes through his head. He’s a different kind of cat. He came down and he wanted me to do something for his record, but I don’t think he liked it.”
Marshall also confirms that Ocean wasn’t the only member of the Odd Future collective that he worked with. Talking further in the interview, he also reveals that he produced Earl Sweatshirt’s ‘Death Whistles’ under the Edgar The Beatmaker moniker.
“[Earl] lived in my house [in London] for four weeks,” Marshall says. “It was probably like five in the morning. And we made this beat, [which] basically came out of the fact that he was like, ‘This beat’s trash.’ And he slowed it down, super. And he was like, ‘This is some good shit.’ [laughs] I was like, ‘Aight.’”
