As it’s nearly lunchtime, here’s something to whet your palette: Iron Maiden have released a video to introduce Hallowed - the latest addition to their increasing range of beers. The Belgian-style beer has been brewed by Robinsons Brewery who made their successful Trooper ale.
Regular readers of Gigwise will recall that the band had teamed up with the brewery to introduce their new Belgian-style ale and that it would be ready for necking – sorry, that should be “available to responsible drinkers from October."
Well, the band are as good as their word and Hallowed is here. A just released 10-minute video sees Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson visit Head Brewer Martyn Weeks and Technical Brewer Alistair to find out more about the yeasts used as he tries various samples.
The action then jumps six months forward and finds Dickinson in Belgium where Iron Maiden are promoting their last album, The Book Of Souls. And man, you can just feel Dickinson’s enthusiasm for the latest creation.
Breathing in the aromas of the new beer and then giving it a good old taste, Dickinson is fulsome in his praise: “It’s not a golden Belgian ale, it’s more like an Affligem or a Grimbergen. I think it’s a really nice hybrid because it’s got that English base with that slightly peppery Belgian yeast aftertaste and aroma… it’s a thing of beauty.
“I’m really proud of that.”
Gigwise toasts Iron Maiden and Robinson’s Brewery on their latest addition. Their Trooper ale has gone down pretty well at this end on more than once occasion though at a headbanging 6.0% ABV, Hallowed is something to be savoured rather than guzzled. It’ll probably go great with a rare steak, frites and Dijon mustard, so if anyone’s offering then you know where to find us. Cheers!
