Yesterday Detroit rapper Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg dropped a massive hint that his new album, the follow up to 2013’s The Marshall Mothers LP 2, will be released before the end of 2017.
Rosenberg, a longtime associate of Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers III) and now CEO of Def Jam Records, yesterday posted a superficially unremarkable photo to Instagram holding up a physical copy of the upcoming Yelawolf album ‘Trial by Fire’, ahead of its release this coming Friday.
In the background of the photo is a huge advert for a drug called ‘Revival’ covering the side of a downtown building. Keen-eyed fans on Reddit did a little digging and noted there is no actual drug named ‘Revival’, and even went one step further, noting a post in the Detroit Free Press revealing that the ad had apparently been purchased by Interscope Records, Eminem’s label.
Several details of the poster hint at Eminem’s involvement, not least the reversed ‘E’ in the logo, one of the rappers many stylistic trademarks.
In a bizarre additional twist, the fake drug even has a website (‘http://askaboutrevival.com/) with an elaborate vide that promises to relieve users of ‘Atrox Rithimus’. The video makes several references to Eminem’s oscar-winning hit ‘Lose Yourself’, while the piano soundtrack hints none-to-subtly at longtime associate Dr Dre’s smash hit ’I Need A Doctor.’
At this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards, Eminem dropped a freestyle criticising President Donald Trump, going so far as to disassociate himself entirely from fans who support Trump. Earlier this year, he celebrated the 15th anniversary of The Eminem Show with special bundles of t-shirts, autographed posters, and a nostalgic special release of the LP on cassette.
