Anarcho space-rock veterans Hawkwind have announced the release of a new live album later this year. Entitled At The Roundhouse, the gig was recorded at the legendary London venue in May this year and will be released on CD and DVD formats on December 8.
The show marks the first time in 40 years that Hawkwind have played the venue, and some 45 years after the band recorded the hit version of ‘Silver Machine’ – with a pre-Motorhead Lemmy on vocals – for the Greasy Truckers Party album.
Recalling the gig from earlier this year, Hawkwind leader and sole original member of the acid-fried groove machine Dave Brock remarked: “Yes, it was really good fun playing back at The Roundhouse. After not playing there since 1977 – when we had Motorhead support us – it brought back many fine memories for me. Great venue!”
And speaking of the late and much missed Motorhead, the May gig – as captured for posterity on this live package – featured a guest appearance from the band’s guitarist Phil Campbell on the encore of ‘Brainbox Pollution’ and ‘Silver Machine’.
A multi-disc vinyl edition will follow early in 2018.
