Details: The Isle of Wight Festival sits alongside Glastonbury and Woodstock in the annals of festival history. It all started at the height of the flower-power era in 1968.
1969 saw Bob Dylan, Joe Cocker and Moody Blues play at the 2 day gig. In 1970, the festival reached it's climax with over half a million arriving at Afton Down to see the likes of The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and the debut performance of Emerson, Lake And Palmer. It cost just £3 for 5 days!
The next IOW festival was banned until 2002, but the festival atomosphere was quickly rediscovered. The 3 day blow out now takes place in Newport and is home this year to the Smirnoff Ice Cube- a place for video DJs, weird lighting and ultra cool music.
The Bollywood Bar offers a mix of spicy bhangra amidst the madness. The Strongbow rooms allow for sun deck laziness or serious shape pulling contests (easily done after too much cider). The cream of DJs from around the UK join up to mix it up and get everyone going until the tiny hours.
