Red Hot Chili Peppers have sent a message of condolence to the family of a fan who was killed queuing for tickets in New Zealand this morning (March 5).

The unnamed 18-year-old was sleeping in a shopping centre car park in Whangarei, NZ, in anticipation of the tickets going on sale at 9am for a show in Auckland this April.

The fan was hit by a car and immediately killed in the incident. The driver did not stop and police are now launching an appeal to find the driver of the dark Nissan Skyline.

A statement from a band representative reads: “The band’s hearts and prayers are with the family at this sad time.”
