Festivalgoers Criticise 'Frustrating' Gatecrasher Summer Soundsystem

Which was badly affected by rain...

This years Gatecrasher Summer Soundsystem, which took place over the bank holiday weekend, has been branded “very frustrating” by festivalgoers.

The dance event, at Turweston Aerodome in Northamptonshire, was battered by adverse weather which led to the cancellation of Sunday’s headline act The Chemical Brothers.

Speaking to Gigwise, one festivalgoer, Amy, said that there was “total confusion” around the festival site throughout Sunday.

“None of the bouncers and staff knew what was going on so I still don't know if Crystal Castles cancelled or were just moved to another tent which is well annoying,” she said.

“We managed to find out that Pendulum were moved to a tent and saw them but couldn't get a definite answer about Hot Chip and found out right at the end - from someone in the toilet queue - that Chemical Brothers had cancelled so Sunday was over all a very frustrating day.”

As previously reported, the festival was marred by the death of a man who was found in one of the main marquees. His body has yet to be formally identified and a post-mortem is due this week.

Amy, who emailed Gigwise about the festival, also criticised the attendees at the event.

“The crowd was such a mix of 15 rude boys, girls wearing whore-fairy outfits and 35 year old men who haven't yet realised its not 1992 anymore so no, I will never go again and wouldn't even bother recommending it to anyone not even a dance music fan,” she concluded.

  • i think the comment about the attendees is very unnecessary. if 35 year old men want to go to a festival, let them. nobody complains at glastonbury! and if people want to dress up for a festival, let them. i doubt they walk around like this every day so it’s an opportunity to have a little fun! as for the cancellations, it was extremely annoying. what outdoor festival in england doesn’t ensure that rain won’t call the acts off?!

  • I think that the festival was brilliant, yes chemical brothers didnt play, but so what? If the people there had taken a minute to stop moaning and look at the other acts playing in the tents they might have discovered a new artist they had never heard before and had a wicked night. The drum and bass arena tent on day one and metropolis tent on day two were excellent! and as for the people who were there, i saw not one fight or even arguement and all the people i met were a right laugh.

  • I thought the festival was brilliant, better than many others I’ve been to and I would definitely recommend it. The rain was unfortunate but I’m confident they did what they could to get around it. The stewards didn’t know much which was annoying but if you went to the main stage you could always find out the latest. Generally, the atmosphere was great despite the weather, the site was set out well, it didn’t take long to get anywhere, no queues. just generally a wicked w

  • Frustrating! The staff didn’t have a clue what was going on, music wise or directions. None of the 12 staff we asked if there was more than one entrance into the festival knew the right answer. Acts were moved to different days, different stages, no one was informed. Everyone knew it was due to rain on sunday , why werent they prepared!! the main stage field wasn’t even muddy! £10 for programme which fell apart ten mins later - these should be free! drinks were £4+ £3

  • On a good note, the line up was awesome - pity some were cancelled and moved I missed out quite a few I paid to see very annoying !!! I think we should all receive a partial refund! The Prodigy were incredible as usual & Soul Wax were awesome...I dont think festivals should stop festival goers from taking their own alcohol and drinks in throughout the whole festival , they make enough profit from the tickets, it ruins the essence of what a festival was all about , freedom & music
