Fans can expect a mixture of sunshine and showers as the summer festival season officially gets under way this weekend, Gigwise can reveal.

Three major music festivals – Rockness in Scotland, Download in Donnington and the Isle of Wight festival – all begin on Friday (June 12).

On the banks of Rockness, fans will be greeted by dry and bright conditions, but a Met Office spokeswoman told Gigwise “there may be some light showers during the evening and overnight” on Friday.

“Saturday and Sunday will be cloudy with more light showers,” the spokeswoman added.

Conditions at the Download festival in Donnington Park, which will be headlined by Slipknot, will be more consistent with sunny spells, although there could be some light showers overnight on Sunday.

Temperatures at the event will reach a maximum of 20degC on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Isle of Wight festival will start off with some light showers tomorrow but conditions will gradually improve over the weekend.

“Saturday will be a mix of sunshine and showers but Sunday will be drier,” the Met Office spokeswoman said.

The event in Newport is due to feature headline performances from Razorlight, Sterophonics, The Prodigy and Basement Jaxx.
