A man has been arrested for public nudity at Glastonbury for the first time in the festival’s history.

Police are understood to have taken the man into custody yesterday, despite the Glastonbury’s traditionally liberal ethos.

In total, police have made 131 arrests since the event began on Friday. Most are drugs related.

The figure has already eclipsed last year’s total number of arrests, which stood at 89.

Meanwhile, one woman attempted to give birth in the Green Fields area of Worthy Farm yesterday.

The unnamed woman had taken a midwife with her to the festival in the hope of that she could give birth to the first Glastonbury child since 1998.

A spokeswoman told Gigwise: “She went to the garden where the healing angel is to sit in a dome which is a sacred place connected to the earth to get good energies.”

Despite her best efforts, however, the woman was eventually taken off site to a nearby village to continue the birth.

The spokeswoman said that the woman and child hoped to return to the festival today.

  • It must have been something more than just nudity because that is not, in itself, an offense. I am interested to learn what he was actually arrested for. Aggressive exposure (flashing) is an offense. The usual charge for nudity in stupid circumstances is the infamous s.5 Public Order Act (I or they don't like it). There are police officers who just assume that nudity must be an offense so they may now be scrabbling around trying to find something to charge him with.

  • This illustrates why so many people who experienced Glastonbury before it became sanitised moan that it is 'not like it used to be'. What used to be a self-policing liberal and counter-cultural gathering now has a corporate plastic face to it. Good riddance. Go take your happiness and money to some of the smaller better festivals that are springing up around the UK.
