X Factor supremo Simon Cowell claims that he has done the UK a “favour” in killing off the Christmas number one chart race.
In a poorly timed interview with NME Magazine, the smug record executive claims The X Factor has stopped “horrible songs” getting to the top spot at Christmas.
The comments come as the Official Charts Company confirm that Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' is ahead in the midweek charts.
Asked whether he has killed off the Christmas number one, Cowell blathered: "Yes and no. I think we were getting to a point where it was all becoming like 'The Millennium Prayer' and I just didn't like that song.
"I think we all have this belief that the Christmas Number One was just amazing songs… but actually when you look at them over recent years it was Bob The Builder, Mr Blobby… there's a tradition of quite horrible songs. I think I've done everyone a favour."
X Factor Joe McElderry is currently the bookies favourites for the top spot at 1/5 on, although the RATM campaign, led by a Facebook group, is gaining momentum.
NEWS JUST IN: Simon Cowell calls Rage campaign "miserable" and "very Scrooge."
- Sorry Simon, the people are taking back the power! RAGE on!
- This man is just so hideously smug. His contempt for the people who provide his money is staggering. Why he thinks that his products are any real improvement on the songs he mentions I don't know.
- The Climb is one horrible song, RATM for XMAS No.1!
- bob the builder? cowell was the one behind the teletubbies song ffs! booo that man, booo boooo!
- the public will be happy to tell you if youve done us a favour or not, DOUCHEEE
