Gorillaz have gone straight in at number two on the US Billboard album chart with 'Plastic Beach'.

The record sold 112,000 copies, but was denied the top spot by Ludacris's 'Battle Of The Sexes'.

'Plastic Beach', which features the likes of Snoop Dogg and Mos Def, has become the cartoon band's highest charting US album.

Their previous releases, 2002's 'Gorillaz' and 'Demon Days' in 2005, peaked at numbers fourteen and six respectively.

According to chart tracker Nielsen SoundScan, Jimi Hendrix's re-issue package, 'Valleys Of Neptune', was a new entry at number four.

Broken Bells' self-titled debut album also charted inside the top-10 at number seven.

As previously reported on Gigwise, Gorillaz 'Plastic Beach' also debuted at number two on the UK album chart, losing out on the top spot to boyband Boyzone.
