- More The Libertines
Ian Wright has hit out at Pete Doherty after The Libertines star spat beer over one of his fellow presenters.
The footballer-turned-TV presenter called Doherty a “mug” following the incident at the band's reunion press conference in London yesterday.
The singer twice spat beer over reporter Minnie Stephenson as she attempted to speak to Live From Studio Five viewers.
Wright, who was in the studio, looked to have been left visibly upset by Doherty's actions.
“You know what, Pete Doherty does my head in. I hate that geezer,” he said.
“He's spitting on her back. What a complete mug he is. What a fool. I hate that guy."
The press conference yesterday was held to promote the band's reunion gigs at the Reading and Leeds festivals in August.
Before the band's appearance on Channel 5 they held an impromptu gig for journalists, which marked their first performance together in five years.
You can follow Gigwise's Jason Gregory's coverage of the press conference as it happened here. For more information about Reading and Leeds and all this summer's festivals, check out the Gigwise Festival Guide.
The Libertines will be joined on the Reading and Leeds line-up by headliners Guns N’ Roses, Blink-182 and Arcade Fire.
The event takes place from August 27-29. Tickets are on sale now via Gigwise Gig Tickets.
- I've never been a fan of Ian Wright, but in the space of 3 minutes Pete Doherty manages to show the world just what kind of low-level despot crackhead he actually is. This might have worked ten years ago, but now they just looked like little schoolchildren desperately hanging on to some dying “legacy”.
- Honestly, who does Doherty think he is?
- These are the opinions of a man who himself just recently made his co presenters life impossible for her to carry on working with him.
People in glass houses Ian...
It's too easy for people to knock Peter Doherty for their own publicity.
Talking of dying "legacy" Jack - Who really cares what Ian Wright thinks?
- To be honest, Mrs D, he's got (literally) more talent in his right foot than Pete Doherty.
- Well Mr W - I'm pretty sure that Ian was pretty good at football in his time, but I'm not sure I'd really want to hear any of his albums.
