Slash has said he doesn't consider himself a guitar “legend”, despite his fame with Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver.

The 44-year-old guitarist, who is about the release his debut solo album, has received high praise from fellow musicians and critics throughout his career.

In 2007, he was was also voted 21st in Gigwise's 50 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time.

But in an interview with the BBC, Slash said he was still mastering the instrument that he took up as a child.

“All the guys who I consider guitar legends are the people that are the pioneers of electric guitar - rock and roll guitar in particular - and blues guitar as well,” he said.

“So I'm still struggling to keep up and it's a work in progress, so I definitely to put myself in the legend category.”

Slash's self-titled solo album, which features collaborations with Fergie and Andrew Stockdale, is released on May 13.
