Top Gear's James May To Present Show On BBC 6 Music

Top Gear presenter James May is to host a one-off edition of the Friday Night Rock Show on BBC 6 Music.

May is one of four celebrity music fans tasked with fronting a show as the station celebrates “the music fan in everyone”.

The 6 Music takeovers will begin tonight (April 22) when Gordon Smart, editor of The Sun’s Bizarre column, chairs the Roundtable from 6-7pm.

May will present the Friday Night Rock Show from 9pm-midnight on April 23, and said he was “very much looking forward to inflicting the soundtrack of my youth on the nation”.

Channel 4’s Ruth Watson will host Craig Charles’ Funk & Soul Show from 7pm-10pm on April 24.

The celebrity takeovers conclude on April 25 when Wright Stuff host Matthew Wright presents the Freak Zone from 6-8pm.

Paul Rodgers, editor of 6 Music, which was recently outlined for closure by the BBC, said he hoped listeners would be “impressed” by the takeovers.
