Robbie Williams and comedian Russell Brand have re-recorded the England football anthem ‘3 Lions’.

The pair have teamed up with the song’s original stars David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and the Lightning Seeds ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Football commentator John Motson also features on the song, which will be released under the name, The Squad.

Williams said he had been offered the chance to record football anthems before, but had always turned them down.

"I've always been approached to write football songs but have always declined as I thought 3 Lions could never be beaten - so I am really happy to be part of this record,” he told the Press Association.

"I am counting down the days until the start of the World Cup."

The new version of ‘3 Lions’ was produced by Trevor Horn and includes a full orchestra.

It will be released on Monday (May 17).

The original topped the UK charts when it was released as the official anthem for England's participation in Euro 96.
