Thom Yorke: 'The Music Industry Is A Sinking Ship' Add to My Fav Bands List

Thom Yorke has compared the mainstream music industry to a “sinking ship” and advised up-and-coming musicians to try and make it on their own.

The Radiohead frontman is reported to have made the comments in an interview for a new school textbook about citizenship studies.

Yorke told The Rax Active Citizenship Toolkit that it was “only a matter of time — months rather than years — before the music business establishment completely folds”.

He added that this would be “no great loss to the world”, and that aspiring musicians should seek other avenues, reports the London Evening Standard.

Radiohead released six albums with major label EMI before leaving in 2007 to independently release ‘In Rainbows’.

  • Thom Yorke as ever telling it like it is. But then again trying to make it on your own is hard enough. I know a group down here in Swansea who have been gigging for the last 3 years, they've gigged here, Cardiff, London, Brighton, Bristol etc, a lot of cities in Britain, they've had good reviews, but still have not been signed and it's extremely rare that local bands get signed nowadays with record labels for looking for the next Lady Gaga, JLS, Dizzee Rascal and not the next Radi

  • There are other avenues, such as inventing new effects for guitars. When you see a band and you know you can do better, it sickens you.
