Scott Weiland: 'The Internet Has Destroyed Journalism'

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has claimed that the internet has “destroyed modern journalism”.

The singer told XFM that the internet was “all crap” and that it frequently provided inaccurate information.

"I read written reviews in major newspapers, but online stuff is like just a hyper-version of telephone,” he said.

"It's ridiculous. There are a lot of great things that have come from it, but I think there's a lot of bad things. I think it's destroyed modern journalism. It's turned things incredibly tabloidesque.”

Weiland added: “Anyone who thinks they have passed basic creative writing 101 can be a blogger."

The singer's comments come just days after Stone Temple Pilots played a huge gig at London's Brixton Academy.

  • Amen to that. Too many Blog opinions passed off as researched based articles and accurate information.

  • As much as I admire Scott Weiland as a musician, I have to disagree with him on this one. I'd say the internet has made finding news on just about anything a lot easier and quicker than any other medium. If anything, rather than Googling randomly, just continue to rely on reliable websites and internet columnists for the latest news on whatever it is that you're interested in, whether it be entertainment, politics, or if Kanye West has finally died quietly of excess embarrassment.
