The estate of Michael Jackson has generated more than $1billion since his death last June.

The fortune has been acquired from music sales and film rights, as well as a series of lucrative deals, including a new contract with Sony Music.

Reuters reports that Jackson sold 9 million albums in the US and 25 million worldwide in the last 12 months.

When combined with digital song downloads and ring tone sales, the star's estate earned an estimated $429million from his music alone.

The movie This Is It, which featured footage of the star rehearsing for his ill-fated comeback in London, generated $329million.

Plans were also unveiled earlier this month for a new Michael Jackson video game, which will enabled users to dance along to his famous routines.

Jackson died at his home in Los Angeles on June 25 last year.
