The xx hailed their hometown crowd as they headlined the iTunes festival in London tonight (July 12).

Returning to the capital following a spate of festival appearances, the band thrilled fans with an enchanting set at the Roundhouse.

The trio spoke sparingly during their performance, which mainly included tracks from their self-titled debut album.

But singer Oliver Sim paused after ‘Shelter’ to tell the crowd “how nice it was to be back home”.

Referring to the venue, he added: “The last time we played here we played the basement, so things are looking up.”

Sim, guitarist Romy Madley Croft and electronic wizard Jamie Smith’s performance took place in front of a giant ‘X’ and video screens.

As well as their own songs ‘VCR’, ‘Basic Space’ and ‘Night Time’, The xx also played their well-known cover of Kyla’s funky house song, ‘Do You Mind’.

After leaving for a brief break, the band returned to thank support act Wild Beasts, who Sim described as “incredible”.

The xx ended their performance with a bass-heavy version of ‘Stars’, which saw silver confetti shower the audience.

The xx played:

‘Intro’
‘Crystalised’
‘Islands’
‘Fantasy’
‘Shelter’
‘VCR’
‘Do You Mind’
‘Basic Space’
‘Night Time’
‘Infinity’
‘Stars’
