Seventeen people have died and many more are believed to have been injured during a stampede at the Love Parade in Germany.
The crush occurred when police attempted to prevent festival-goers from entering a tunnelled entrance to the site in Duisburg, near Düsseldorf.
Police commissioner Juergen Kieskemper said the parade ground was already overcrowded when the incident occurred.
He described the scenes as “very chaotic”. The Associated Press reports that the event is due to continue to prevent another stampede.
The Love Parade originally took place in Berlin, but was moved to Duisburg in 2007.
It is widely regarded as the country’s leading dance music festival.
