Seven doctors responsible for treating Michael Jackson in the years before his death will not face criminal charges.

Los Angeles police had called for the way the doctors had prescribed drugs to be investigated.

The investigation included a search of the prescription drug database, which monitors doctors who prescribe control substances.

One doctor has been referred to the California Medical Board for using an alias, reports BBC News.

The seven doctors under investigation did not include Dr Conrad Murray, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter over Jackson's death last June.

Dr Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charge. A preliminary hearing has been set for August 23.
