If hip-hop were boxing (which, if you think back to rap battles of the past, it pretty much is), today would mark a pretty heavyweight bout.
In the red corner, weighing in at over 80 million album sales worldwide and making his return to action following a long battle with drug addiction, we have Eminem. And in the blue corner, weighing in at over 20 million album sales worldwide and returning to the ring following a self-imposed, Taylor Swift-orchestrated exile, we have Kanye West.
And what are they fighting about? Videos.
Both West and Eminem have chosen to release their new videos on the same day and, for rappers with those kind of credentials, they've understandably not pulled any punches.
Kanye West - 'Power':
West has teamed up with artist and director Marco Brambilla on 'Power', and together they have created what the rapper has coined a “moving painting”. (If you follow him on Twitter you'll have seen him banging on about it for the last week). Visually, it's rather impressive, with a continuous shot of West gradually pulling back to reveal him surrounded by nude female attendants, while an executioner stands behind him.
Eminem - 'Love The Way You Lie':
For 'Love The Way You Lie', meanwhile, Eminem has called on Rihanna (who also features on the song) and Hollywood actors Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan, who play the roles of a couple caught up in a whirlwind of domestic violence. It's hard-hitting stuff.
But which video comes out on top? What do you think? Leave your thoughts by filling out the comment form below.
- Eminem's video totally rules over Kanye's. He's lost it.
- That Kanye West video is the best video of all time.
- That Eminem video is shocking. It totally glamourises domestic violence, not condemns it. What was he thinking?
- Eminem wins that hands down, him n Kanye West is no compitition at all
- Lol are you stupid how does it glamorise it? Have you listened to the lyrics. The video clearly shows how destructive that type of relationship is, it also shows both sides of the situation and shows how things can escalate.
