Count & Sinden - Track By Track Guide To 'Mega Mega Mega'

As Count & Siden prepare to release their debut album 'Mega Mega Mega', Gigwise sat down with the London duo to get their guide to the record.

'Do U Really Want It (feat. Trackademicks)'

The mood of the track just felt like the opener for the album so it made choosing the first song of the album very every easy! We knew wanted some kind of hip hop on there but we really wanted something other than straight up hip hop. Sinden knows Trackademicks from his DJ travels, I wasn't aware he rapped to be honest I had just heard his music and remixes. He's got a great tone of voice that really makes this chugging electronic Juggernaut shine!

'After Dark (feat. Mystery Jets)'

Kai and I lived on the same street for a year and a half and we become great friends he met  Sinden and I met Will as we were always around each others house on our street. They are kinda like family now. We really wanted to make a strange Afro-disco-indie summer anthem and I think we succeeded.

'Desert Rhythm'

This track is based around an instrument called an oud. We got a session player to come in and record it. Sounds great in the club as it has a really nice exotic sound and was called desert rhythm as it made us think of the desert, its not rocket science!

'Hardcore Girls (feat. Rye Rye)'

One of our earlier singles reworked for the album. Driving electronic ghetto bass with the highly talented Rye Rye. Sinden was MIA's tour DJ for a while and met Rye Rye as she was supporting her and was up for collaborating. She came to the studio and we had it all done so fast, she was so young but incredibly professional and spot on.

'Roll Out (feat. 77 Klash)'

Uptempo rolling marching snares and heavy sub bass. We had this beat rolling around for quite a while jus looking for the right person to guest on it. As soon as we heard 77 Klash we thought he would be great on it. And he is/was!

'Elephant 1234'

African electro ghetto house, always a big tune when we play it in our sets originally a B-side to Strange Things we couldn’t resist re-tweaking it and putting it on the album.

'Hold Me'

We heard a track called "tell me"  and couldn’t get the voice out of our heads. When we finally found out it was Katy we got on the phone to her as fast as we could. She’s such a talented singer but also a great song writer, imaginative use of words and still irresistibly catchy

'MEGA'

The album’s theme tune, rolling orchestral Afro techno. It did really well last year, was played everywhere across the board. We're really proud of it. And thanks to my manager James for bullying us into making a theme track for the album!

'Addicted To You (feat. Bashy)'

I'm quite fussy with MC's as I really only tune in to their tone of voice and we had been hearing tracks by Bashy around and every time I asked "who's that?" it was 9/10 times bashy! It was great fun to record, we had the beat with its Egyptian percussion and big chords on the chorus and just got the vocal done in the studio throwing ideas around. Bashy’s got a great singing voice, we had to convince him to sing on it!

'Panther'

Cumbia beats Argentinian accordions and roaring panthers, one of the more clubby tunes on the album but has been going down amazingly in the clubs with a wide range of our DJ mates.

'Llamamé (feat. Coolio Iglesias)'

Coolio is a friend of mine from Spain/Columbia, who's been writing songs for ages, hes got tons! Sinden and I really wanted to do a twisted cumbia track so that's how this came about and as soon as I played it to coolio he started singing the chorus over it right in front of me

'You Make Me Feel So Good'

We really wanted to make a proper closing track and this one got the nod out of the three tunes we had for the finale. I got my friend Seba (who is the singer in Dead Soul Brothers) to add a nice bit of vocals to give it a human touch. shoegaze/my bloody valentine/garage.

'Mega Mega Mega' is released on August 23 on Domino Records.
