X Factor bosses have admitted using vocal enhancement on the new series of the TV talent contest.
The technique, more commonly known as auto-tune, upset fans who watched the first episode on Saturday (August 21).
Most of their complaints centred on 18-year-old Gamu Nhengu, who covered the Katrina And The Waves hit 'Walking On Sunshine'.
An X Factor spokesman told the BBC vocal enhancement as part of key post-production work.
"The footage and sound is then edited and dubbed into a finished programme, to deliver the most entertaining experience possible for viewers,” the spokesperson said.
"When it gets to the live shows, it will be all live."
Over 11.1million people watched the opening episode on Saturday. The X Factor runs until Christmas.
