Online music streaming service Spotify has claimed its one millionth paying subscriber in Europe.
The company said it was with “a real sense of pride and excitement” that they had reached the milestone.
But the majority of Spotify’s 6.67million users still subscribe to the free service, which interjects advertisements in between songs.
By subscribing, the adverts are removed and users can also use the service on mobile phones.
The announcement comes as Spotify continues its efforts to receive enough funding to launch in the US.
The much-delayed arrival Stateside has been blamed on unsuccessful attempts to convince major record labels about the royalty-based business model.
