Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis has described being nominated for an Ivor Novello Award as a “really good feeling”.
The band's single 'Spanish Sahara' is shortlisted for Best Song Musically and Lyrically alongside tracks by Everything Everything and Villagers.
In an exclusive interview with Gigwise, Philippakis said the group were honoured to be up for the award.
“It’s a really great award because the title is Best Song Musically and Lyrically and not many awards really have that lyrical element,” he said.
“I definitely feel lyrics aren’t generally given enough credence, so this feels very good.”
He added: “It’s also nice because you get nominated by your peers and other writers, rather than it being just some random industry people. It’s not a case of men in suits controlling everything.”
The 56th Ivor Novello Awards will be presented during a ceremony at the Grosvenor House hotel in London on May 19. You can see the full list of nominees on Gigwise.
