R.E.M frontman Michael Stipe has revealed he tried to save Kurt Cobain's life.
Stipe said he told Cobain, who had problems with drug abuse, that he wanted to record a song so he could look after him.
He told Interview magazine: “I was doing that to try to save his life. The collaboration was me calling up as an excuse to reach out to this guy. He was in a really bad place.”
“I reached out to him with that project as an attempt to prevent what was going to happen,” Stipe added.
The singer said he ended up sending a plane ticket and a driver to Cobain, but he never took up the offer. Cobain committed suicide in 1994.
