Ringo Starr has claimed that The Beatles were “lucky” to secure his services as drummer.
In an interview with Live Magazine, Starr, who replaced original drummer Pete Best in 1962, said at the time he was bigger in Liverpool.
"Within Liverpool I was a lot more well known than them," he said.
“Rory And The Hurricanes were big shots in the city. We had suits. That was our claim to fame. They were lucky to get me. It wasn’t just that I was a big shot, I was a cool drummer."

Starr went on to talk about his relationship with Sir Paul McCartney, saying the pair were “good friends” and were looking to record together again.
