Queen guitarist Brian May has backed a campaign to overturn the decision by a Scottish golf club to reinstate a player who was suspended after he battered a fox to death.
Donald Forbes lashed out at the animal after it stole a chocolate biscuit from his golf bag at Peterculter Golf Club.
He struck the fox with a club, injuring it so badly that another golfer had to kill it. He was suspended from the club and fined £750 but has since been reinstated, reports the Scotsman.
A campaign has since been launched by Fox Watch to overturn the club's decision to reinstate Forbes.
May, a veteran animal rights campaigner, said: "It's evident that the vast majority of the British public are disgusted by cruelty to animals, as shown by the public outcry against this particularly senseless piece of brutality.
"The members of this Aberdeen club have the opportunity to show their disapproval in an appropriate way - by banning this unsavoury character for life. But they seem to be unready."
The campaign wants golfers to boycott the club or complain, campaign organiser Paul McDonald said.
