Ryan Adams has revealed that Laura Marling inspired his forthcoming new album 'Ashes & Fire'.

The singer, who releases Ashes & Fire' on October 10, said Marling's 2010 album 'I Speak Because I Can', made him ditch most of the songs he wrote for the album.

'I thought: 'For ****'s sake. I literally threw out 80 per cent of what I had. And it felt good to ask: 'What am I really capable of? I felt competitive again to write great songs,'' Adams told The Guardian.

Adams also revealed that he entered a heavy period of drug taking after he was diagnosed with Meniere's disease in 2006.

''All the stuff I was doing exacerbated the disease. You're not supposed to smoke, you're not supposed to drink alcohol, be stressed, eat salty foods. You're probably not supposed to do speedballs.

He added: "I didn't know this at the time, but people have since said they were certain I would die."

Ryan Adams has announced details of a UK tour, set to take place in October. Tickets are on sale now. For more details and to buy Ryan Adams tickets, check out Gigwise Gig Tickets.
