UB40 have been declared bankrupt, it has been announced.

Four members of the reggae band - Brian Travers, Jimmy Brown, Terence Oswald and Norman Hassan – have now been declared bankrupt by a judge at Birmingham County Court.

The news follows a bust-up over band finances, which saw frontman Ali Campbell quit the band in 2008, following the collapse of their management company DEP International.

The court order will last a year and means that tax officers can seize property belonging to the band to pay off their outstanding debts, reports the Daily Telegraph.

A spokesman for frontman Ali Campbell said in a statement: 'It is ironic that the very week they celebrate their first gig they have been declared bankrupt, after administration began in 2006, vindicating both Ali and Mickey Virtue's decision to leave UB40.'
