The Take That star was among a host of acts that took to the stage in aid of charity including Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Jessie J.

Cole, who is recovering from illness, tweeted last night: 'Gutted I can't be in Manchester tonight at #CIN Rocks.. I'll be watching and giving my donations.. X'

Michael Buble, Elbow and JLS were just some of the stars who played the event, which also saw X Factor judges Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland and Tulisa Contostavlos do their bit for the cause.

Lady Gaga played a collection of hits including 'Bad Romance' and 'Marry The Night'.

Introducing The Edge Of Glory, she said: "I wrote this song for my grandad but tonight this song is for the children that don't need to be alone."

Meanwhile, Jessie J was joined on stage by James Morrison to perform their latest single 'Up'

The Children in Need telethon takes place on Friday, November 18 from 7.30pm on BBC One.
