Taylor Lautner has fallen victim to a hoax that claimed he had come out of the closet.

A fake cover for People magazine contained a quote from the Twilight star saying that "I'm more liberated, and happier than I've ever been."

However, a spokesperson for the star told Gossip Cop that the reports were "absolutely fake."

One person who did fall for the prank was hip hop mogul Russell Simmons, who tweeted: "Disappointed that people would joke about someone coming out about their sexuality. Let Taylor Lautner be whoever he wants to be...", although he later tweeted that he'd made a mistake once the prank was pointed out to him.

Lautner's next appearance on the big screen will be alongside Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, which is released in December 2012.
