Coldplay have scored the first number one of 2012 with single 'Paradise', earlier tonight (January 1).
The band knocked the Christmas number one by the Military Wives off the top spot after ten weeks in the chart. 'Paradise' also beat off competition from 'Dance With Me Tonight' by Olly Murs and 'Good Feeling' by Flo Rida.
Rihanna's collaboration with Calvin Harris 'We Found Love' is at number five, whilst X Factor winners Little Mix drop to number six with'Cannonball'.
Elsewhere in the album chart, Ed Sheeran jumped eight places with his debut album '+' to number one, while Bruno Mars' 'Doo Wops & Hooligans is at number two'.
Celebrating the news, Ed Sheeran wrote over Twitter: My album '+' is number one in the UK album charts again. I couldnt ask for a better start to a new year, thank you all so much...this wouldn't have happened without you lot, give yaselfs a pat on the back *pat pat pat*.
Amy Winehouse's posthumous album 'Lioness: Hidden Treasures' dropped to number five, while Rihanna's latest effort 'Talk That Talk' is at number seven.
