Katy Perry Hits Out At Divorce Rumours Over Twitter

Katy Perry has opened up on social networking site Twitter for the first time since Russell Brand filed for divorce last December.

The singer, who married comedian Brand in 2009, thanked fans for all their support and urged them not to believe everything they read in the media.

Perry wrote on Twitter: "I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again".

"Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, "close sources" or my family."

Perry who reportedly wanted Brand to file for the divorce is said to currently be writing new material inspired around the split.

The pair began dating shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009, which the comedian hosted.
