    Singer Etta James Dies Aged 73

    Legendary singer Etta James has passed away aged 73.

    The singer was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010 and was told by doctors that her condition is incurable.

    News has broke today (January 20) that she died at a hospital in Riverside, California, reports CNN.

    Husband Artis Mills, and her son, De Leon said:

    This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world. She was a true original who could sing it all -- her music defied category.

    "I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always."

    In January, it was announced that James had also been diagnosed with dementia.

    The US blue singer’s health problems were revealed in court documents filed by her husband Artis Mills.

    Throughout her career, James overcame a heroin addiction, won six Grammy Awards and was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

    Beyonce paid tribute to the singer earlier this year during her headline slot at Glastonbury festival, where she performed a cover of the 1961 classic ‘At Last.
