Sigur Ros have announced they will release a new studio album in May, 2012.
The Icelandic superstars have promised the new record will not sound like 'anything the band have recorded before', but reassured fans the Sigur Ros hallmarks will remain on the record.
"It's not like anything else we've ever done", said bassist Georg Holm in an interview with Q magazine. "You could say our past records have been uplifting, or depressing, but this I'd compare to looking at an old landscape painting."
He also revealed that there would be more electronic sounds on the album - but added that fans shouldn't worry, "we haven't made a dance record."
Sigur Ros released their last album, 'Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust' in 2008. Lead singer Jonsi recently released his second collection of solo material, the soundtrack to Cameron Crowe's 'We Bought A Zoo' movie.
Sigur Ros have also been confirmed to perform at this year's Bestival.
